Sep/Oct 2022. Best Desktops. On Birdymanbestreviews we review good, affordable Apple, Windows, family, college, gaming and work/business desktops. We look at specs like a quad-core or even a octa-core processor (for example: Intel I5, I7, I9 or AMD A8 or A10 etc), fast hard-drives SSD and/or HDD with plenty of storage and DDR4 RAM. Also important for gaming and heavy duty graphic programs are reliable sound and graphics cards so that they can run smoothly, as well as playing HD movies.
The best PC brands today are Apple, HP, Dell, Sony, Acer and Asus.
On this website you will first find my recommendation for the best (tower and All-in-One) desktops and then my choices for the best Intel i3, i5, AMD and gaming PC.
(Disclaimer: prices mentioned are accurate at the time of writing, but may have changed)
The best Desktop for the money at the moment is in my opinion the Acer Aspire Desktop, with 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700F.
This desktop has the combination of the 12th Generation power efficient Intel i7 12700F processor together with the newest very fast 16Gb DDR4 Memory. It is the latest Intel version and has a very good price/quality compared with the older 11th gen Intel processor. A big increase in performance of the Intel Core series was expected in the next 12th gen processors and the results are indeed impressive. The Intel I7-12700 has a Turbo Boost up to 4.9 GHz and 16 Gb DDR 4 3200 MHz RAM is more than enough for any demanding graphics program. For serious gaming you get the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super Graphics with 6GB GDDR6 Video Memory tht will let you play most games at higher settings. The RAM is up-gradable to 32 Gb if needed. OS: Windows 11. It has a 512 Gb SSD which gives a fast boot and reaction times and the extra 1TB HDD gives you more than enough storage space for all your data. It comes with a keyboard and mouse.
Price (at time of writing this post): around $1200 but this could have changed in the meantime. When I look at price-quality and value for money this ACER tower desktop is still my choice for ‘best desktop 2022’. It is also one of the best selling desktops on Amazon at the time of writing.

Gaming desktops are high-end desktops and are more expensive than normal desktops. This is because they have a better cpu, more/ faster RAM and a much better, almost always separate, video card than regular desktops, which are needed for fast game-play, high fps and excellent graphics in high demanding games.
When you just want a pc to do some everyday email, internet/ social media, watch an occasional movie or do some text editing then, a cheaper, more affordable budget computer is the best choice. The specs are not as good as the more expensive desktops have. So therefore don`t expect the fastest performance. If speed and specs are not the most important then the following recommendations are everything you need. And all that for a good price. Also check out the refurbished desktops which are good value for money.
Speed is a very important spec. The speed of a desktop is mainly dependent on the quality of the central processing unit (CPU), how many CPU`s (single core, dual core, quad core), the available RAM (more internal memory is better, today desktops should have at least 4 GB) and the harddisk (SSD is much faster than regular HDD). You almost don’t see single core cpu’s anymore these days. 2 or 4 cores is common with 6 to 8 cores for the more expencive and gaming pcs. When running programs or games that use a lot of graphic processing the quality of the graphics processing unit (GPU) and/or video-card is very important. The newest Intel i3/i5/i7 cpu’s are the 10th and 11th gen cpu’s that perform better and use less power.
When choosing a PC the CPU is an important factor to consider. The CPU is the heart of the system. There are two main processor manufacturers namely Intel and AMD. The intel processors tend to perform slightly better per core but costs about twice as much compared to the AMD processors. The advantage in performance can be noticed in high speed gaming frame rate but is hardly noticeable when using the desktop for normal use. The newest Intel CPUs are the 10th and 11th generation. AMD processors get more out of a good GPU and RAM running on a high frequency. Therefore you mostly see AMD processors in gaming rigs.
Separate or integrated GPU?
Desktops for normal household use have integrated Graphics in the CPU. You don’t need a separate graphics-card. But for more graphics demanding video editing and gaming you want to have the CPU and a separate graphics-card doing. Then the CPU and GPU can do their own task. This is more expensive but greatly improves the frame-rate in gaming and speed in video editing.
The Need For Speed
The i3 Intel series and its equivalent AMD processors are used in low end desktops for usual computer tasks. These are activities like surfing the web, email and administrative tasks. Intel Core i3 are the cheapest Intel processors with the lowest processing power. The Intel i5 series and equivalent AMD processors have better performance and can be used for light/medium gaming and medium video editing/ graphical programs. The i7 and higher Intel processors and equivalent AMD processors are the most expensive. These will get you the most processing power, the best gaming experience and the best basis for heavy graphical programs and video editing.
In 2021 all new desktops have the new fast DDR4 RAM which is faster and more power efficient than the older/slower DDR3. When deciding on a new desktop I suggest you definitely buy one with DDR4 RAM.
Tower Desktop or All-in-One?
Desktop computers are available in two varieties: tower desktops and all-in-one desktops. A tower desktop usually does not include a monitor. You will need to buy one separately which adds to the total price, or use one that you already have. In an All-in-One desktop the computer components are build in in the monitor. This makes All-in-One desktops generally more expensive than a tower desktop without monitor. An AiO desktop saves space but it is more difficult to build in extra components if you want to do that. Also, you are stuck with the integrated screen and can not replace it with a new monitor later on. There are advantages and disadvantaged for both choices.

Apr/May 2022. Best Laptops For 2022. What is the best Laptop/Chromebook? On this site we review good, affordable Intel i3, Intel i5, Apple, Windows, family, college, gaming and work/business laptops and Chromebooks. Good laptops today have some serious processing power. The best brands like Apple, Asus, Acer, HP, Dell and Samsung have a sleek design and are lightweight. Who needs a desktop any more?
When buying a new laptop or chromebook there are several factors to take into account. You want to look at the best price (under 400, under 500, under 1000), processor, Chromebook/ iMac or Windows and design. Which laptop is best for you depends on your wishes and what you are going to use your new laptop for (family, student, business).
Factors that determine the performance of a laptop computer
Speed of a laptop is mainly dependent on the quality of the CPU. The number of cores the CPU has (single core, dual core, quad core) and the available RAM (more internal memory is better, today laptops should have at least 4 GB) makes a big difference. And also the type of harddisk (SSD is much faster than regular HDD) is important for speed. When running programs or games that use a lot of graphic processing the quality of the video-card is the main factor for speed. Ultrabooks usually have more RAM and a better cpu and video card than regular laptops.
What Speed Do You Need?
– I3 Intel series and its equivalent AMD processors are used in low end laptops for usual computer tasks like surfing the web, email and administrative tasks. These are the cheapest Intel processors with the lowest processing power.
– The Intel i5 series and equivalent AMD processors have better performance and can be used for light/medium gaming and medium video editing/ graphical programs.
– Intel i7 Intel processors and equivalent AMD processors are the most expensive but get you the most processing power, the best gaming experience and the best basis for heavy graphical programs and video editing.
The gain in performance with a more expensive processor/graphics card can be noticed in high speed gaming frame rate but is hardly noticeable when using the laptop for normal use.
Therefore I present and review on this page the most popular laptops, after that a section with Ultrabooks and after that the best laptops from the top laptop brands.

#2 The latest Apple MacBook Pro and MacBook Air
The latest Apple MacBook Pro and MacBoook Air are the most popular Apple laptops. Both are excellent laptops with the best specs you can get on the market, but they are also the most expensive mainstream laptops around. The MacBook Pro shown below has a 10th gen Intel i5 processor, a 2560 x 1600 IPS screen, up to 1TB (very energy efficient) flash drive, 16 GB RAM and 4 thunderbolt 3 ports. Those specs make this laptop extremely fast. If you are an Apple user, nothing can compare to the quality of a MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air. When you are not an Apple user the price and the problematic data transfers with windows computers could be an obstacle.

An Ultrabook is a fast, ultra thin, ultra lightweight laptop that can only be called “Ultrabook” when it meets specific requirements set by Intel. It has a low energy use so the battery will last a long time, it boots up extremely quickly and is automatically updated. These features are reflected in the price. Ultrabooks are usually more expensive than a regular laptop.
Ultrabooks For 2020
Here you find the best Ultrabooks available today.
Intel vs AMD
When choosing a laptop the CPU is an important factor to consider. The CPU is the heart of the laptop. Intel and AMD are the two main processor manufacturers. The Intel processors tend to perform better per core but are about twice as expensive as the AMD processors. For example, for the price of a 2 core Intel processor you can get a 4 core AMD processor.
It is difficult to say that the Intel CPU`s are better than the AMD ones because for the same price as one Intel core you can sometimes get more AMD cores which eliminates the performance gain that single Intel processors show in benchmark tests.
AMD processors have less processing power then Intel processors but they are about half the price. For example: for the same price as an Intel i3 processor which is a duo core processor you have a quad core AMD A10 processor. The AMD A10 and i3 processors are similar in performance but AMD processors run better with a good amount of fast RAM memory. Therefore you will normally see more GB RAM installed in the laptop. You will find better/ separate graphic-cards in AMD laptops then in Intel laptops for the same price because the processor is cheaper. This is useful for better graphics in games and video editing.
Best Gaming Laptops for 2021
#3 Best Laptop: Newest HP 15.6 inch Premium HD Laptop Intel Core i5-7200U, 12GB DDR4 RAM
With this HP 15.6 inch Premium HD Laptop, you will get the latest Intel Core i5-7200U Processor. Included is also an enormous amount of 12GB very fast DDR4L SDRAM, a 15.6 inch HD SVA BrightView WLED-backlit (1366×768) with Intel HD Graphics 620 with up to 6230 MB total graphics memory.
HP has been a quality laptop producer for many years. The Pavilion series are laptops with good specs for a decent price. The specs for this HP Pavilion 15.6-Inch Laptop are: latest 6th Gen Skylake, Intel Core i5-6200U Processor 3M Cache, up to 2.80 GHz 6GB DDR3, 1TB HDD. It has Windows 10, a 15.6-inch Full HD WLED-backlit IPS Display (1920×1080), HDMI, B&O PLAY with 2 speakers. For a price around $535 a 15.6 inch 6th gen Intel i5 laptop with these specs (especially FULL HD) is a very very good deal!
This Asus 15.6 inch laptop is one of the most popular laptop today. This is very logical because the specs are very good when looking at the price: around $350 at the time of writing. For that price you get: the Intel i3-5010U 2.1 GHz processor, 4 Gb RAM and a 15.6 inch FULL HD screen. A very good laptop for everyday use at home, for a student or as a laptop for your work. It does not have the extreme quality of the Apple MacBooks but has a lot to offer for about 1/5 the of the price :) that is why I put this laptop on the #5 place in the ranking.
Dell is a well known laptop brand for many years. The Inspiron series are good laptops for a good price. The specs for this Dell Inspiron 15 15.6-Inch HD 1366 x 768 LED Backlit Touchscreen Display High Performance Laptop are: Intel Core i5-5200U processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, DVD+/-RW Drive, HDMI, Bluetooth, Win 10, Intel HD Graphics 5500 with shared graphics memory. For about the same price as my #1 pick you get a 5th gen i5 processor, not the newest 6th gen. but with 8GB RAM in stead of 6GB and a HD touch screen in stead of a full HD non touch screen. The choice is up to you :)
This Samsung Chromebook 3 has the following specs: Celeron N3050 2.6 GHz processor, 11.6 inch 1366 x 768 screen, 2 GB DDR3 SDRAM, 16 Gb SSD. It is the successor of the long time very popular first Samsung two Chromebooks. Pros: very, very fast because of the 2 GB DDR3 SDRAM and 16 Gb Solid State Drive, lightweight, slim design and fully integrated with all Google services. Biggest problem for people who don`t like Google: fully integrated with Google services.
#8 Lenovo Flex 3 15.6-Inch Touchscreen Ultrabook
This is an ultrabook, that means that it has more features, like a touch screen and better specs but is also a bit more expensive that a regular laptop. Although it is more expensive it has an excellent price/quality. That is why it is # 8 of the best laptops 2018.
2017. Best Netbooks/ Chromebooks for 2017. Netbooks and Chromebooks are the best! A good netbook is easy to take with you, lightweight, affordable, has a sleek design and is fast. I bought a new netbook for when I travel. Long battery life and weight are most important for me. A good netbook is able to perform all basic functions like surfing the net (it is not called a netbook for nothing), all social networking, some basic text editing, watch a movie. 11 inch laptops have better specs but are not as cheap as a netbook.
Remember when looking for a new netbook: Netbooks ARE NOT full blown laptops and the specs are according to the price: basic. Netbooks are lightweight, have impressive battery life and are easy to take with you. The 11 inch laptop gives you the same portability, are although they cost a bit more, still very affordable but the cpu, motherboard and screen are generally speaking better quality.
The main competitor is the tablet, but I choose my netbook or 11 inch laptop over a tablet to take with me on the road in the USA anytime because it has a normal keyboard, and when I have closed it it is safe. I would never be at ease with a tablet in my bag in fear of breaking the expensive glass screen.
So, When you want to buy a new netbook or 11 inch laptop there are several things to consider like: price, weight, processor, Chromebook or not, Apple or Windows etc.
The Dell Chromebook 11 is the best netbook 2016. It boots in seconds, is easy to use and all Google apps are pre-installed and are updated automaticly. Battery: up to 10 hours. WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, and support for 3G/4G Mobile Broadband as well as Browser based computing allows consumers to sync with other Android phones or tablets.
The Samsung Chromebook 2 is the #2 best netbook for 2015/2016 because it is a real netbook. The bootup is incredibly fast, mere seconds, due to 4Gb of RAM and a 16 Gb SSD. It is also a real netbook because you work as with all Chromebooks in the Google cloud and have to be online to do that. The advantage of that is that all the resources of the netbook are used for being fast and are not ‘wasted’ on running the programs. Other advantages: automatic updates, full protection against viruses and mall-ware, your work is automatically saved. It has no moving parts, is very thin and has very long battery life, up to 9 hours. Read more about Chromebooks here.
The way I solved the problem: “There was an error saving the message to Sent. Retry?” is:
1) Create a new map in the mail account folder and call it something like ‘Sent emails’
2) Go to ‘settings’, ‘copies & folders’
3) In the first section : ‘When sending messages, automatically’ – [x] place a copy in:
select => other
4) Select the folder you made in step 1)
5) Click OK
6) Delete the original folder ‘Sent’
Now all sent messages should be stored in the new map ‘Sent emails’ without problem
Please let me know if this solution helped you or if you have found an other solution to the Thunderbird “There was an error saving the message to Sent. Retry?” bug.
