Factors that determine the performance of a laptop computer

Speed of a laptop is mainly dependent on the quality of the CPU. The number of cores the CPU has (single core, dual core, quad core) and the available RAM (more internal memory is better, today laptops should have at least 4 GB) makes a big difference. And also the type of harddisk (SSD is much faster than regular HDD) is important for speed. When running programs or games that use a lot of graphic processing the quality of the video-card is the main factor for speed. Ultrabooks usually have more RAM and a better cpu and video card than regular laptops.

What Speed Do You Need?

– I3 Intel series and its equivalent AMD processors are used in low end laptops for usual computer tasks like surfing the web, email and administrative tasks. These are the cheapest Intel processors with the lowest processing power.

– The Intel i5 series and equivalent AMD processors have better performance and can be used for light/medium gaming and medium video editing/ graphical programs.

– Intel i7 Intel processors and equivalent AMD processors are the most expensive but get you the most processing power, the best gaming experience and the best basis for heavy graphical programs and video editing.

The gain in performance with a more expensive processor/graphics card can be noticed in high speed gaming frame rate but is hardly noticeable when using the laptop for normal use.

An Ultrabook is a fast, ultra thin, ultra lightweight laptop that can only be called “Ultrabook” when it meets specific requirements set by Intel. It has a low energy use so the battery will last a long time, it boots up extremely quickly and is automatically updated. These features are reflected in the price. Ultrabooks are usually more expensive than a regular laptop.

Intel vs AMD

When choosing a laptop the CPU is an important factor to consider. The CPU is the heart of the laptop. Intel and AMD are the two main processor manufacturers. The Intel processors tend to perform better per core but are about twice as expensive as the AMD processors. For example, for the price of a 2 core Intel processor you can get a 4 core AMD processor.

It is difficult to say that the Intel CPU`s are better than the AMD ones because for the same price as one Intel core you can sometimes get more AMD cores which eliminates the performance gain that single Intel processors show in benchmark tests.

AMD Laptops

AMD processors have less processing power then Intel processors but they are about half the price. For example: for the same price as an Intel i3 processor which is a duo core processor you have a quad core AMD A10 processor. The AMD A10 and i3 processors are similar in performance but AMD processors run better with a good amount of fast RAM memory. Therefore you will normally see more GB RAM installed in the laptop. You will find better/ separate graphic-cards in AMD laptops then in Intel laptops for the same price because the processor is cheaper. This is useful for better graphics in games and video editing.

A very good laptop for everyday use at home, for a student or as a laptop for your work. It does not have the extreme quality of the Apple MacBooks but has a lot to offer for about 1/5 the of the price :) that is why I put this laptop on the #5 place in the ranking.

When you have an Apple smartphone you have the choice between an Apple Smart watch or an Android/iOS smartwatch but it is normally good advise to stick with the brand smartphone you have to avoid compatibility problems. The Android smart watches are usually less expensive than the Apple smart watches.

Best Apple Smart Watch: Series 5 and Series 6

The best Apple smart watch is by far the new Series 5 Apple smart watch. It has the following features: GPS + Cellular, Always-On Retina display, 30% larger screen, it is Swim proof, it has an ECG app and electrical and optical heart sensors. Also handy are the built-in compass and elevation and the Emergency SOS/ International emergency calling. This is the latest Apple smartwatch. Apple has updated the specs greatly from the Series 4. The battery life is around 18 hours, which is shorter than the Samsung Galaxy.

In my opinion this is the best Apple smartwatch you can get at the moment. You get all this for a very good price which has gone down lately because Apple has announced the Apple smart watch Series 6.

The Series 6 has a brighter screen and altimeter. It will be available in range of different colors. Apple also introduced new bracelets for the watches. Apple has also introduced a cheaper Apple Watch SE. The Apple Watch SE can be placed between the Series 4 and still available Series 3.

When looking at price-quality and value for money this Series 5 and when available the Series 6 is my choice for ‘best Apple smart watch 2021’.

The Samsung Galaxy smartwatch has a 1.3 Inch sAMOLED 360x 360 display and a 1.15 GHz Dual-Core processor with 0.75GB RAM 4GB internal storage memmory, the latest 2.4GHz Bluetooth v4.2 and a battery life that lasts up to 4 days. The watch has multiple sensors like an Accelerometer, Barometer, Gyro Sensor, HR Sensor and Light Sensor. Because this watch is much less costly than the Apple watch you get more value for money. The Samsung Galaxy below is less than $400 at the time of writing this review. Especially because of the value for money, the long battery life and the great looks this Samsung Galaxy smart watch is in my opinion the best Android smart watch.

SSD vs HDD

The main advantage of SSD above HDD is the speed. SSD`s are incredibly fast compared to HHD`s but there was the problem that Solid State Drives did not have much GB`s of storage and they were expensive.  But no more ! The rapid development of the ssd has now overcome these problems. SSD`s are now available from 16 GB to 960GB and the price has dropped.

The SSD is this fast because it has no moving parts, a HDD does. This makes the SSD noise free, light weight and durable. The flash memory in the SSD delivers the data directly via the SATA 3 connector to the CPU. SSD`s are about 10 times faster than a 7200 RPM HDD.

Also the development of Chromebooks has made an impact. In these low budget laptops a small 16 GB ssd is build in because the bulk of the programs are stored on-line and not on the internal memory anymore. Because of the solid state drive chromebooks are very very fast. So, for the near future I see the HDD fading out slowly and the SSD taking its rightful place as cheap, fast and most used core memory in netbooks, laptops and desktops.

Crusial can make the SSD cheaper by using a new production method which makes better use of the flash memory. With this method the SSD needs less chip surface to reach the required capacity.

You will be amazed by the performance boost.

What Specs Do You Want?

An Intel i5 laptop is a midrange laptop that can be used as a family computer, as a laptop for college/school, as a laptop for “on the road”, for light/medium gaming and medium video editing/ graphical programs. It is more than fast enough for normal day-to-day internet, social media, writing reports/documents/presentations, watching a movie etc. The Intel i5 processor has two cores which makes it suitable for multitasking. After deciding for an i5 processor in your laptop there are more choices to make, the specs you want your new laptop to have.

Amount Of RAM Memory

RAM Memory is short for Random Aces Memory. This is the memory that the i5 processor directly uses to process data. The amount of RAM is therefore very important for its performance. If you want your laptop to boot fast and react fast the available amount of RAM (more internal memory is better, today laptops should have at least 4 GB, 8 GB or more is preferable).

Type Of Storage: HDD or SSD

The type of harddisk makes a lot of difference for speed. SSD is much faster than regular HDD and is increasingly affordable but if you use the storage mainly for movies/photo’s etc then the bigger amount of GB’s for the money that a HDD provides can be usefull.

Videocard

When running programs or games that use a lot of graphic processing the quality of the video-card is important. The i5 is actually an Integrated CPU-GPU processor. This means that the i5 has integrated graphics processing and for normal use you don’t need a separate graphics card. A separate Graphics card is only necessary when you want to play heavy graphics demanding games on higher settings or use the laptop for video editing. Then you would better buy an Intel i7 Laptop which is more suitable for that purpose.

2017. Best Netbooks/ Chromebooks for 2017. Netbooks and Chromebooks are the best! A good netbook is easy to take with you, lightweight, affordable, has a sleek design and is fast. I bought a new netbook for when I travel. Long battery life and weight are most important for me. A good netbook is able to perform all basic functions like surfing the net (it is not called a netbook for nothing), all social networking, some basic text editing, watch a movie. 11 inch laptops have better specs but are not as cheap as a netbook.

Remember when looking for a new netbook: Netbooks ARE NOT full blown laptops and the specs are according to the price: basic. Netbooks are lightweight, have impressive battery life and are easy to take with you. The 11 inch laptop gives you the same portability, are although they cost a bit more, still very affordable but the cpu, motherboard and screen are generally speaking better quality.

The main competitor is the tablet, but I choose my netbook or 11 inch laptop over a tablet to take with me on the road in the USA anytime because it has a normal keyboard, and when I have closed it it is safe. I would never be at ease with a tablet in my bag in fear of breaking the expensive glass screen.

So, When you want to buy a new netbook or 11 inch laptop there are several things to consider like: price, weight, processor, Chromebook or not, Apple or Windows etc.

Best Budget (Below $400) Self Build Desktop Pc Spec 2015

 

 

 

 

2015. Building your own budget desktop is cheaper than buying one off the shelf, you can configure the self build desktop to your specific wishes and it is right out fun to do.

First of all you need a motherboard/ chipset combination that can deliver the performance you want and isn`t too expensive. Then you need some internal memory to speed things up. I recommend for the configuration below 4 Gb of DDR3. More is not needed for a budget self build and less would bring down performance too much. 

Then you need a HDD or SSD. Fortunately today the SSDs have become increasingly cheaper and for a budget build desktop you can get a 128 Gb SSD for a reasonable price. That is why I have selected it for my setup below. It just boots so much faster than a normal HDD that I think is worth the money. Ofcourse you can always use a HDD yourself if you have one laying around or want to spent less money.

To put everything together you need a case and a power supply. For this selection I have gathered low price but quality products.

Here is my recommendation for Best Budget Self Build Desktop 2015 Build

It costs about $360 without software. For software I choose Linux Mint myself because I like Linux and now how to work with it. You might like Windows 8.1 better but that adds to the price.

[Solved] Thunderbird “There was an error saving the message to Sent. Retry?”

 

 

 

 

The way I solved the problem: “There was an error saving the message to Sent. Retry?” is: 

1) Create a new map in the mail account folder and call it something like ‘Sent emails’ 

2) Go to ‘settings’, ‘copies & folders’

3) In the first section : ‘When sending messages, automatically’ –  [x] place a copy in: 

select => other

4) Select the folder you made in step 1)

5) Click OK

6) Delete the original folder ‘Sent’

 

Now all sent messages should be stored in the new map ‘Sent emails’ without problem
